Bundoora RSL Bowling Centre
The Bundoora RSL Bowling Centre is a proud, professional and respected lawn bowls centre situated in Bundoora, approximately 16 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD.
The Centre is continuing to grow as a result of a merger with Watsonia RSL in 2008 and now have a broad community membership base of over 3000 male & female members.
We have 3 greens including 2 Santa Anna couch grass greens and a new synthetic green allowing for bowling all year round. Our large clubhouse has undergone renovations and with the introduction of our new social 'Beerfoot Bowls™' the Club has a strong aspiration to continue to be a power in Melbourne's northern suburbs.
Social activities are conducted throughout the season. These include day trips, cards, dances, casino days, as well as activities associated with bowls, and other clubs. On Friday nights the bistro at the club serves a variety of meals to suit budget conscious customers. A special member's draw occurs at 6pm, and members must be in attendance to claim the prize.
Location
Bundoora RSL Bowling Centre is located in Yulong Reserve, Cameron Parade, Bundoora. Across the park is Bundoora Square shopping centre. There is plenty of free, off-street parking and is easy to get to on public transport; Tram 86 - Bundoora RMIT - Waterfront City Docklands line.
Bowling Competition
The bowls season runs from September through to April, although those clubs with a synthetic green can play all year round. Bowls Victoria conduct a pennant competition played mid week (generally Tuesday) and on weekends (generally Saturday). Both pennant competitions run from October to March.
Both indoor and outdoor bowls are played during the winter months. Indoor bowls are played on proper bowling mats with small indoor bowls, and there is a social and pennant competition. Outdoor bowls are played on the the synthetic green.

A night pennant competition is also available for men, and this provides really competitive matches against other clubs, as well as providing valuable practice on other greens.

History
Starting in May 1972 a small steering committee was formed to approach the Council. On November 8 1972 a meeting took place in `All Saints' Anglican church hall, Grimshaw St, Greensborough and the Bundoora Bowling Club was formed. The men who joined at that time became known as foundation members. Lady bowlers became Associate Members, and thus formed the Ladies' Section.
In June 1973 at a General Meeting, the Men's Section decided to enter two teams in the RVBA competition for the next season 1973/4, and the RVBA allocated the men two teams in C grade. The Ladies' Section, at their meeting, decided to enter one team for the next season, and the ladies were allocated a team in D grade.
Our first green (which is now our centre or No.2 green) was opened on February 24th 1974. We were loaned a tent for use as a club house, and later acquired use of an ex-army bell tent which was bigger than the first. The ladies "did the men proud" on pennant days using trestles for afternoon tea, and serving sandwiches, cheese and biscuits, plain and fruit cake, and tea or coffee, served from an urn at the back of the tent.
In December 1974 we moved into our new club house, the tin shed. This was indeed comfort, but also posed minor problems. We commenced playing pennant on our own green in the season 1974/5.
